Obviousely those who badmouth Macs have anever really worked with one. I'm not talking when you were in kindergarten either. I am well versed in both platforms and never, will I waste money on a Pentium anything. At work due to our high graphics workload we have burned up 11 PC harddrives. Yup, 11. We went Mac and no problems. Not to mention a hell of alot faster Processing and spooling speeds.

#4, I've used a mac - but my concern is they are too simple. There aren't any saveguards in place to protect a user from doing something stupid. I can't imagine a OS limited to only creativity based work.

Then again - everyone who has a need for a computer ALWAYS is well-versed in Hi-Res imagery - i mean - why else would i have a computer if i wasn't an expert on detailed images? - me being the premier artist in suggestive dance.

#4, "There aren't any saveguards in place to protect a user from doing something stupid."

which is why macs aren't for stupid people :P

seriously though, aside from the mouse, i think everything is better on a mac.
especially the layouts of certain programs - such little things as an expanded or compressed toolbar depending on the app is better and allows for more workspace on screen.

i use a G4 for digital audio and midi - for composing and arranging music. i'm doing stuff that most pcs cant handle. yes you can use a pc for music but it just isn't the same. i use a roland jv keyboard and can control so much on a mac as opposed to all the compatibility and sound issues on a pc.

go into any college and take a look at the midi or music labs and see what computers they use. go into a recording studio and see what they use. why do you think pro tools was designed with macs in mind?

"go into any college and take a look at the midi or music labs and see what computers they use. go into a recording studio and see what they use. why do you think pro tools was designed with macs in mind?"

and do you know why mac's are prefered in collages? because if they used PC's - all the uptight anti-establiment liberal students would get their hair in a knot. "You can't have a PC - that supports corperate this and corperate that. Bill gates murders innocent djibouti children so he can fund BILLCO - his new petroleum chain for SUV's that get 2 MPG."

You gotta realize - if your sole reason for a computer is pivitol on in-depth media manipulation and creation - get a mac. They accel at that kinda crap.

if you just want to whorde videos for the purpose of selling them to "clients" - get something else. 98 accels at that kind of crap.

#10, pretty much all colleges use pcs.
i was talking about the music depts.
i also used a mac in my photo journalism class in high school.

as for videos, kazaa lite was designed for pcs, so i'll continue to use pcs for that.

oh, and when was the last time you heard about a mac being infected by a virus?

I pretty much live in the graphics lab at school anymore and we use IBM's for all of our technical drawing projects and they're all very graphics intensive. I'd take those over the Artsy Macs any day, once you see the 'tude of those Art majors and what they really get out of those macs, you really learn to love a PC. They think they're professional programmers by how they use photoshop all the time, and that's about all they use the macs for, they just couldn't support the programs we use in the industrial department.

#11, There are a few cases of Mac virii; they're just not as widespread as those on the PC because there is less programming done for the Mac in general.

As far as your "stability issues" go, I really have absolutely no problems with uptime or reliability (running Win2K Pro). I can see the argument for using a Mac in some areas of computer graphics or multimedia, since those were among the original target audiences for the Mac, and those that Apple continued to emphasize throughout the Mac's development. However, for your average home user, the benefits to using a Mac are far outweighed by the inherent disadvantages--price, availability of software, etc.

Personally I'll take a Sun Workstation and live in the Unix world - but alas, in the real business world, we live on PCs and CAD Workstations.

#5, "as opposed to the two or three daily ones i get on my pc."

i'd also like to cite on how you could have honestly typed that sentence. 2 to 3 times daily? Can i ask why kind of demanding applications are you running on your PC that are so unstable that it must crash more than twice daily? Also - is your PC's hardware in check - your not overclocking your processor are you or spilling coke onto any of the boards are you? Maybe the PC is encrusted with spyware.

To be honest - i can't buy bullshit like that. If my PC crashed 2 or 3 times daily - it would be a new boat anchor for my rubber inner-tube.

And lets not try to avoid the taboo area of a Mac crashing - they do too. Be it not so often as the horror stories i read on a rare basis - but that ties in with my "too simplistic" argument.

Damn, did I stir up a hornets nest, or what? =) I have fried many a PC in my day but, the Macs have always pulled me through. Although I can lockem up from time to time, I have never experienced any critical loss of data with my Mac like I have my PC. And what a breaze everything is when you don't have to worry about fricken DOS crap.
