That thing looks really ghetto in the close-ups. Heck, the chain appears to go through a 90* twist at one point. I'd have figured he'd use a gear drive of some sort where the chain coming up from the pedals met the chain coming from the drive wheel.
Edit: Version 3, though, looks somewhat less like it was designed by somebody who just escaped an insane asylum.
